Home prices fall again in January

The housing market continued to show its weakness as home prices dropped for the third consecutive month in January, according to data released by the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

New home sales reach record lows in February

The housing market contracted last month as new home sales fell to 250,000, 16.9 percent lower than January’s upwardly revised 301,000 and 28 percent lower than February of last year, according to Commerce Department data released today. Every region except for the West saw record low sales last month.

Home prices continue downward slide

Home prices continued to drop across the U.S. in January, falling for the sixth consecutive month as several factors continue to affect the housing market.

Foreclosure activity drops in February

The number of properties receiving a foreclosure-related notice fell to a 36-month low in February, likely due to lenders stepping back during investigations into the foreclosure process. Foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac reported that 255,101 properties received at least notice in February, down 14 percent from January.

Report: Remodeling spending will rise significantly in first half of 2011
