West Shore Home Acquires Atlas Home Improvement

The acquisition give the home improvement company a presence in the Metro Detroit region. Michigan has some of the nation’s oldest housing stock with a median age of 53 years.

West Shore Home announced on Oct. 27 that it's entering the Metro Detroit market with the acquisition of Atlas Home Improvement, a second-generation, family-run company based in Whitmore Lake, Mich.

Atlas Home Improvement was founded in 1989 by David Bobby and is now led by his son, Darian Bobby. The company specializes in bathroom and shower remodeling, and operates a direct-to-consumer, in-home sales and installation model similar to what West Shore Home runs nationally.

The founding family is stepping away from day-to-day ownership, but Atlas’s leadership team is expected to remain in place. West Shore Home plans to transition the Whitmore Lake location to its brand and operating model and will introduce replacement window and door services.

The news release noted that Michigan has some of the nation’s oldest housing stock, with a median home age of 53 years; the national median is 45 years. Roughly 60% of the state’s occupied homes were built in or before the 1970s. West Shore Home said these conditions are driving the demand for bath remodeling and replacement window services.

West Shore Home is headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and operates in more than 32 states.
