Best Practice: In 2015, the mother-daughter team of Two Chicks and a Hammer became stars on the HGTV show Good Bones. Starsiak and her mom specialize in rehabbing older homes near downtown Indy. Starsiak’s designs truly differentiate her in the market. In one recent rehab, the home’s exterior was painted a warm brown “like too much milk in your hot chocolate,” she says, with a plum colored front door and creamy trim. Plum accents were used inside the home, which also featured hints of ash and lavender. “It’s not matchy-matchy, but we like to create a palette for the homeowner,” Starsiak says. The concept continues in the upstairs bedroom with two tongue-and-groove wood-paneled walls salvaged from the original home. Starsiak lightly painted them using an ombré effect, with the plum color at the bottom and beautiful wood showing throughout.
