Adding two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and parking afforded an opportunity to blend a modern addition with the 1950s-style home. However, a 30-inch height difference between the floors of the addition and the main house, as well as zoning requirements that limit where an addition can be built, posed a challenge to accomplishing that goal. The solution: connect the two structures via a covered roof so the addition can ultimately be counted as part of the main house and not as a detached structure.
The original board-and-batten knotty stained cedar siding and limestone were used to harmonize the new addition with the original structure.
