High Performance Homes President Cameron Root

High Performance Homes
Vancouver, Wash.
Projected 2023 Revenue: $75 million

Business philosophy: I used to work for a company where they treated employees like numbers. When I had an opportunity to run my own company, I took everything I thought was horrible about that company and did the opposite. If you take care of the employee, they’ll take care of the customer. We try to create scenarios where employees win, customers win, and the company wins.

On hiring after COVID: We were shut down for three months and I had people in my ear saying I should shrink the company. That fired me up and I said that’s the last thing that we’re going to do. So I came up with the goal of hiring 40 people in 40 days. We accomplished the goal in 30 days and it sent us on a trajectory where we more than doubled our company.

On creating 100 millionaires: After attending a motivational conference, I decided I wanted to help create 100 millionaires. We currently have over 50 sales reps that are commission-only and I wanted to give them this goal to work towards. We designed a “million-dollar” ring to give to anyone who reaches this milestone. For our 13th wedding anniversary, my wife got me an actual NBA championship ring from 1977—the first and only Portland Trail Blazers title. We modeled our ring identically to this championship ring. One employee has already achieved millionaire status.
