Building Science: Avoid More Work by Getting Your Building Enclosure Design Right

Building science expert Allison Bailes gives tips on how to save yourself from doing more work to block and seal air

Not many homes or projects have detailed framing plans, and according to building science expert Allison Bailes, this only leaves more work for later.

Bailes shares a picture of a garage under construction in Georgia, which has I-joists make up the ceiling framing. “It’s not a simple matter to do the blocking and air sealing required here,” Bailes writes. “Yes, it can be done, but it’s going to be a lot of work.”

According to Bailes, they could have used a solid piece of wood instead of having joists running right across the wall.
