Meticulous stonemasonry work now adorns the exterior, while dormer windows and copper gutters punctuate the steeply pitched roof made of ⅝-inch American slate. A formal garden gives lush structure to what was originally an expansive gravel courtyard.
In addition to meeting new building code requirements, structural upgrades include new footings and five steel beams—two in the great room and three in the attic; the latter of which were necessary to support six separate HVAC units as well as the new slate roof. The two beams in the great room were a particularly difficult install, as they required a crane, which meant removing a portion of the roof.
The original detached three-car garage, with a guest unit above, was transformed into an attached four-car garage with a theater/media room above.
