A Remodeling Daydream Turns into Reality:
Growing up everyone wanted to play sports and I always just wanted to mix cement. I grew up in an Italian family. We loved community and being together, and our neighbors were a part of that community. My neighbor was like a second father—he also owned a concrete business. On summers and weekends, I’d go out with him and his son Joe, who was 10 years older than I and was like the brother I didn’t have, and we’d do everything from patios to sidewalks.
My neighbor was like a second father—he also owned a concrete business.
Cool thing was, when winter came and he wasn’t doing much cement work, it wasn’t a problem because he was also a cabinet maker and would let us hang out with him in his workshop. I was using a sander at 11 years old (while supervised, of course)—which is why when other kids were thinking about football, I was daydreaming about building and remodeling.
