e hear a lot about this artificial intelligence thing—but many still have questions about what AI is capable of and real-world applications for remodeling.

The truth is that AI’s capabilities go beyond our wildest imaginations. Here’s a few ways we use generative AI in our remodeling company today.

Translation

Synthesia and Colossyan are products that create avatars of a real person, using their inflections and gestures. You can create a digital copy of yourself and change your language too.

Let’s say I have clients from other countries and English isn’t their first language. How nice would it be if they went to our site and gained information from me, in their first language. Additionally, I have tile setters from Belarus, and imagine there’s a complicated project and I need to ensure I communicate clearly. I could go into either platform, enter my description, request context for someone from Eastern Europe, and select an avatar that looks like them and uses their dialects.

Idea Bouncing and Writing

Writing content is not a new concept for AI, but Jasper AI is my favorite. It’s frictionless and installs as a Chrome extension. You can also start and bounce ideas off of language learning models (like Jasper and ChatGPT). For example, I’m thinking about building a training program for my field staff and my goal is to incentivize them to engage in the program. I want to build milestones and ensure they engage with the content for X amount of hours. I need help putting together an outline. That’s how you speak to AI.

I fed Jasper our brand data, marketing materials, our website, and our voice. Now, anybody can use our brand voice in generating content. I never have to worry about who’s writing a letter to the client and if it sounds like us.

How we can use artificial intelligence is limited by
our imaginations.

Visual Idea Generation

So often for us to design build, we’re trying to extract from the client what they’re thinking. They can use the phrase “timeless classic,” but what is timeless classic? Or maybe you ask for a Pinterest board. Or maybe you say you’ll sketch up some ideas and we’ll work off feedback, but that takes weeks. How about we take 10 minutes, use your language, and generate some images. You now have something to go off of. Renovate AI is consumer-facing, and while I don’t like it very much, it does accomplish this. Soon Canvas and SketchUp will as well.

Assistants and Note-Takers

I use Read AI as a note-taker. It has access to my email and calendars so if I have a meeting scheduled, it will show up whether I do or not (which is useful if you’re at an event and can’t attend all your meetings). I can read meeting transcripts and still be involved after, but even better, Read AI will read my inbox each week and tell me who needs a response. It sends a task list for the week: these are urgent and those are what you said you’d do by Tuesday.

Read AI also serves as a coach, and this is how it truly differs from other options. There are live gauges that measure engagement, my rate of speech, other people’s feelings, my level of charisma, and more. This can be valuable for sales and design to ascertain what a client is feeling based on their body language. It’s significantly changed how I speak on calls.
