Innovative Products: STRONGDEK Architectural Decking

A two-part decking system from Strongwell crafted through pultrusion.

Strongwell, the world's leading pultruder of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, has received a 2025 Product Innovation Award from Architectural Products magazine for its STRONGDEK architectural decking system.

STRONGDEK is a patented two-part system consisting of a pultruded FRP structural plank and a snap-on hybrid composite top cap. The FRP plank handles the load-bearing work — outperforming wood and standard composite decking in rigidity and load capacity, which allows for wider joist spacing — while the top cap provides the walking surface, UV resistance, and non-slip texture. Because the two components are independent, the cap can be removed and replaced with basic hand tools without disturbing the underlying structure, reducing long-term maintenance costs and material waste.

The system will not rust, rot, or require staining or sealing, and is designed for commercial and residential applications, including marinas, boardwalks, docks, hotels, and high-traffic outdoor decks. It is manufactured using a closed-mold pultrusion process that the company says reduces production emissions and waste. STRONGDEK also holds a 2025 Manufacturing Innovations Award from the Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing.

Pricing is available through Strongwell directly at strongdek.com, as the product is sold through specification and quote rather than retail distribution.
