Certainteed says the facing on its SmartBatt insulation features a first-of-its-kind MoistureSense technology that creates a “smart” vapor retarder that reduces the potential for mold and mildew growth. The permeability of the facing varies with the wall cavity’s moisture level, blocking moisture from entering when humidity is low, but letting the wall breathe if moisture levels rise. The batts are available in R-values ranging from R-13 to R-38, and install the same as traditional kraft-faced batts. certainteed.com
