Residential remodelers account for 21% of National Association of Home Builders members and are smaller firms with a median of five employees and a median annual revenue of $2.1 million, according to the association’s newest member census. The remodeling data was revealed Sept. 28 and reflects membership through the end of 2025.

The majority (52%) of residential remodelers reported their annual business activity in the $1 million to $4.9 million range; 23% reported it to be less than $500,000; and 13% reported it as between $500,000 and $999,999. 

The rest of the remodeler members accounted for smaller percentages of business activity: 9% between $5 million and $9.9 million; 2% between $10 million and $14.9 million; and 1% reported $15 million or more. Fewer than 0.5% reported zero business activity in 2025.

The median annual revenue for residential remodelers in 2025 was $2.1 million, a 24% increase from the $1.7 million reported in 2024.

The median number of payroll employees in 2025 was five, which was unchanged from what remodelers reported in 2024.

Remodeling Jobs Costing More Than $10,000

NAHB members who are primarily or secondarily residential remodelers were asked about the number of remodeling jobs they completed in 2025 costing $10,000 or more, and responses showed that a plurality of 37% completed 1 to 5 jobs of this size.

Additionally, data showed that 20% completed 6 to 10 jobs costing more than $10,000; 21% completed 11 to 25; 12% completed 26 to 99; and 4% completed 100 or more. 

On average, members involved in residential remodeling as a primary or secondary activity completed 19 jobs costing $10,000 or more in 2025. The median number was eight jobs, up from six in 2024.

The numbers are significantly higher if the calculations are confined to the 21% of NAHB members who listed residential remodeling specifically as their primary activity. These members completed an average of 31 jobs in the $10,000 or higher range in 2025 and a median of 12 jobs. These results are not significantly different from the ones reported in previous years, dating back to 2022 when NAHB first included the remodeling jobs question in its member census.
