Architects Report Increased Demand Within Remodeling Sector
The Q2 AIA Home Design Trends Survey notes a growing interest in architectural services focused on home additions, kitchen and bath remodels, and ADUs.
Architects are seeing a significant increase in the number of remodeling projects they’re taking on, according to the Q2 Home Design Trends Survey conducted by the American Institute of Architects. The number of kitchen and bathroom remodels they’re tackling is also on the rise.

Another trend that architects identified is increased work involving accessory dwelling units (ADUs), with 62% of respondents noting growth in these types of projects. Interestingly, architects identified a slight decrease in the number of projects involving finished basements and attic spaces.

One surprising trend noted in the survey is a decrease in projects focused on universal design and aging in place. This finding runs counter to what those working in the design-build space have reported, according to a Pro Remodeler survey. Those findings revealed that 85% of respondents noted increased interest in this type of remodeling work, and a significant 92% said they are actively seeking out universal design projects.
