Legal: Bid Shopping After the Project Is Awarded

You asked several subcontractors for pricing, picked the best quote, and used it to win the job. Now what?

For most private work, says construction law attorney Alexander Barthet, asking for and submitting a subcontractor quote with a bid does not commit you to using that subcontractor to do the work. The same is true for the subcontractors, who can turn down the work even if you win the bid using their quote.

But for state and municipal jobs, statutes prohibit bid-shopping after the bid has been awarded.
