For builder-blogger Matt Risinger, one benefit of a well-insulated, super-tight house is the reduced cost of installing and operating a smaller HVAC system.
In this video, Risinger cites four key principles he follows when planning the HVAC system:
- Use a professional HVAC designer to complete a Manual J load calculation
- Consider ductless mini-splits whenever possible
- Provide mechanical ventilation (and dehumidification if necessary)
- Consider an air-circulation system to counter stack effect.
