The updated 2014 Edition of Insulated Siding as Home Insulation: Guide for Users and Energy Raters explores how insulated siding can be used to help comply with the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code. Among those changes: Significant recognition of insulated siding as a form of continuous insulation, including a definition, prescriptive path compliance information, and testing and labeling information. Recognizing insulated siding as both a form of continuous insulation and home insulation can be used as part of a compliance package to meet energy codes that are currently adopted.

Insulated siding is now independently certified by a third party, accredited quality control agency to meet or exceed ASTM D7793. The 2014 Guide also explains prescriptive requirements for installing insulated siding to comply with the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC), which requires that all insulated siding be certified to ASTM D7793 by an approved quality control agency.

Who needs to know about these changes?

Builders and remodelers; architects and designers; specifiers; community planners; HERS and other energy raters; Building Performance Institute certified professionals; and anyone interested in improving energy efficiency in construction.
