This outdoor living area served as the outdoor escape for a rebuilt bungalow that replaced a 1906 shack on a tiny 50- by 52-foot lot.
Marrokal Design & Remodeling used cast-in-place concrete slabs to create a versatile patio and dog run. Wooden slabs and translucent panels were designed to define the multi-use space. The side yard doubles as an outdoor theater, with the owners using the east façade of the house as a movie screen.
In order to create privacy, but still meet local codes, Marrokal crafted a perimeter fence of steel columns with translucent poly-carbon panels. That created a shaded yard with abstract light filtration on both sides of the fence, day and night.
The yard also features drought-resistant landscaping, low-voltage garden lighting, multiple fire features and a sheer-descent water fountain that functions as a modern moat. The final touch is a poly-carbon dog house that mimics the bungalow.
