NAHB Announces Homes for Life Remodeler Award Winners

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) announced winners of the fourth annual Homes for Life Award on it website. The award program, sponsored by Andersen Windows, recognizes excellent remodeling work for aging-in-place and universal design.

Awards were presented at the NAHB Remodelers gala last month to Jeannine Clark, CAPS, of Mannigan Design (Pasadena, Calif.) in the Major Space category, and to Carla Aston, ASID, RID, CAPS, of Aston Design Studio (The Woodlands, Texas in the Single Space category.

Clark remodeled a residence for a couple that planned to rent the home out before retirement. She integrated aging-in-place elements so that they blended in with the home’s design while still adding accessibility and functionality.  Features included wider hallways and doors, a more open floor plan and a sink that accommodates a chair or wheelchair underneath. Aston remodeled a bathroom to accommodate a client with paralysis. She integrated a requested masculine design with a spa tub, a no-step shower and plenty of wheelchair turning space.
