Info Bank 2001: Orderly Approach

March 1, 2001

When designing a new room, consumers want space that works harder. Organomics, a combination of the art of organization and the science of ergonomics introduced by Merillat, takes the concept of work triangles to the next level. By identifying the specific functions required of a room, Organomics allows a space to be divided into corresponding zones. For example, a kitchen can be divided into six zones: the sink, food preparation, cooking, storage/display, planning and eating. "Organomics is a philosophy that melds form and function to create homes that work better and make life easier," says Doug Austin, advanced design manager for Merillat. Think differently about kitchen and bath design. Visit the company’s Web site, www.merillat.
