Technology Tools You Can Use

Dec. 1, 2003

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has introduced the Energy Efficient Rehab Advisor at www.rehabadvisor.com. Users create a profile based on housing type, climate, building age and their role in the rehabilitation project. The site then recommends energy-efficient measures, based on Energy Star standards where applicable, that can be taken on specific projects such as room additions and kitchen remodels, with costs and benefits provided.

A set of online tools on green building and sustainability, the BuildingGreen Suite at www.buildinggreen.com gives subscribers an electronic version of the monthly Environmental Building News and unlimited access to the GreenSpec product directory. Users also can search Environmental Building News archives, access case studies and, through the site's search engine, find information on specific green building topics.

The Copper Development Association now offers a Remodeler Edition of the Structured Wiring for Today's Homes CD-ROM. The free CD, available by calling 888/480-8353, covers 48 topics related to structured wiring, each accompanied by a video clip.

At www.andersenwindows.com/stormwatch/, registered users can access Andersen Design Pressure Estimator software, which helps pinpoint the right Andersen Windows products for coastal applications.
