Turn The Bath Into an 'Urban Spa'

Oct. 1, 2002

Clodagh, an Irish-born designer who lives and works in New York, incorporates the Chinese practice of feng shui into the City Spa bathroom, a recent addition to the Kohler Design Center at www.us.kohler.com. The goal of feng shui is to achieve "balance" through the location and orientation of the living environment.

Looking around her own environment for inspiration, Clodagh blended the sleekness of stainless steel with elements of nature, such as the concrete floor, vanity and shower bench and the river stones under the lavatory. To maximize the space visually, mirrors are used to open the room and amplify light. In keeping with the Zen philosophy of freeing the mind and spirit by eliminating clutter, bath accessories are kept to a minimum.

"The bathroom is a space we use every day, so why not make it a place you enjoy being in?" Clodagh says.
