In the past 12 months, homeowners have completed more remodeling projects and spent more on them than in the previous 12-month period, a recent study finds.

The HomeAdvisor True Cost Report is a nationwide survey of 1,653 homeowners designed to provide insights into consumer behavior around home improvement projects.

In the past 12 months, the number of homeowners who said that they are planning a major home improvement project increased by more than 5 percent. Homeowners also said they plan to spend a lot more on major home improvement projects in 2016 compared with last year.

More than 80 percent of those surveyed said that they paid cash for home improvement projects
