CFO

Tankersley Construction

Sacramento, Calif.

2021 Revenue: $4 million

In 2008, I got hired by an electrical contractor for marketing, and I had a great female mentor and owner of the company who saw a lot in me. From there, I went to work for large electrical contractors and ran $40 million in work. It’s been a journey.

On the topic of women in construction: With starting our own company, it was important to me to give the same opportunity I had to other young women who wanted to enter the project management field. I think women in construction bring a different aspect and perception of how we look at and build projects. Our first female project manager didn’t have a construction background, but that didn’t deter us. For me, that’s where I came from. I can teach you the things you need to know to be successful in your job. My construction coordinator came in with a little commercial construction background and we put her through training courses, and she has her project management certification now.

My goal is to help build up women in this industry and help young professionals grow into leadership roles.
