Best practice: Strobel Design Build warranties its work for two years, and part of that means someone from the office calls every client at six and 18 months post-completion to arrange for a craftsman to come and check on the project. “Other contractors have said we’re crazy and are asking for trouble,” Mark says. “But it keeps us engaged with our clients and also works as a marketing tool.” The visits sometimes result in minor fixes such as cabinet adjustments, or a homeowner may want a door to operate differently. Also, if there’s an issue with a product, Strobel will work with the manufacturer to expedite a repair, even if the problem isn’t the remodeler’s fault. As a result, the company has done as many as five projects for the same client over the years and today, 80 percent of leads come from past clients.
