Owner
Prestige Contractors, Castle Rock, Colo.
Age 35
2015 Revenue: $420,000
Best practice: Prestige Contractors relied heavily on subcontractors for years, but Travis found that while many subs did a good job, he wanted more oversight. So in 2015, he took the plunge and hired four permanent employees. Today, Travis has a uniformed staff who undergo background checks and drug testing. “We finish our jobs faster and have fewer issues with different trades not knowing what the other one is doing,” he says. In addition, he’s noticed that the quality of his leads is better and the jobs themselves are bigger. Four years ago, the company averaged $25,000 on a kitchen remodel. Today, the average is close to $55,000. His company has seen a 75 percent increase in revenue from 2014 to 2015.

Travis has moved from using subcontractors to in-house crews for most jobs.
