Hatfield Builders & Remodelers, Plano, Texas

In a nutshell: The wine-enthusiast homeowners wanted to create an inviting space for their growing collection. The remodel included transforming an existing laundry room and garage into a state-of-the-art wine cellar and preparation area. A new master closet and laundry area were also added.

Solutions: To hold the collection of more than 1,000 bottles, the cellar walls are lined with InVinity floating wine racks. There is mahogany shelving below, and a matching rolling ladder provides easy access to the higher racks. Lighting includes recessed mini-LEDs and strip lights in the ceiling trim. The cellar has its own climate control system to maintain a constant temperature of 55O F, and a Dacor WineStation with an argon gas preservation system keeps several opened bottles fresh for up to 60 days.

The wine storage area has R-30 insulation on the walls and ceiling, fully insulated joists, a vapor barrier, rigid foam, plywood backing, and greenboard.

The prep area is filled with subtle touches that show Hatfield’s impeccable attention to detail. Outlet covers were hand-painted to seamlessly blend with the stone backsplash, and an air switch soap dispenser keeps the counter clutter-free, providing ample room for the homeowners to open their laptops and check inventory. Because the cellar is visible from the home’s main living area, Hatfield added a waterfall edge to create a more polished look.
