Private Construction Reports Slight Gains for 2014

Construction of single-family and multifamily homes increased but was offset by a 2 percent decrease in home improvement spending.

Total private residential spending decreased slightly in August to an annual rate of $351.7 billion. This decline in home improvement could be due to decreasing existing home sales.
