Jersey Shore contractor says legal challenges to FEMA flood map classifications likely

New FEMA maps that designate existing homes in flood zones are likely to spark legal action by property owners, says a New Jersey contractor.

By Peter Fabris, Contributor March 28, 2013

New FEMA maps that designate existing homes in flood zones are likely to spark legal action by property owners, says a New Jersey contractor. The designations could force homeowners victimized by flooding during Hurricane Sandy to rebuild according to costly flood-resistant building standards. “My hope is that a lot of properties that were placed in the V-zone don’t remain in the V-zone,” the contractor says. “We’re asked to be patient, to wait, but there are a lot of people who need help right now, they need to move forward and they can’t.”
