2015 Project of the Year, Silent Rivers Design+Build kitchen remodel

The project, by Silent Rivers Design + Build, in Clive, Iowa, not only manages to carefully and creatively integrate multiple updates made to the home over time, it also incorporates a slew of thoughtful details. Click through the slide show below to see some of them.

Project Background

Though the owners of this mid-century modern home, circa 1966, in Johnston, Iowa, had been planning to remodel their kitchen for seven years, that project took a back seat while several other renovations were undertaken. When the time to tackle the kitchen finally arrived, the homeowners recognized that the design had to tie together all of the previous projects. A number of rooms adjacent to the kitchen were poorly connected either visually or functionally, and the clients wanted the new kitchen to incorporate these areas in a way that would facilitate entertaining and daily living for a family of five.
