Wellborn Cabinetry Helps Create Space for Family and Guests

By Wellborn Cabinet April 13, 2015

The client’s home is located in Birmingham, Alabama. Jennifer Thompson, CKD, designed this remodel and the contractor was Lovette Construction. The client had a very small kitchen, laundry room and un-used formal living space divided into individual rooms which made the home feel much smaller than it actually was. They wanted a space that was open and more welcoming.

To fix this problem, all of the main walls that were dividing the space into separate rooms were taken out to make way for an open concept plan. Next to the refrigerator, concealed by cabinet doors, the once un-used room now serves as their laundry room as well as a hidden pantry. Doing this left the kitchen completely open to the family room and added a large formal dining space to the open area.

The perimeter cabinets are Wellborn Cabinet’s Prairie door style in Maple finished with Glacier paint. The sides of the kitchen have appliance garages down to the counter to conceal all countertop appliances for a clean look. The large island, which is composed of Wellborn Cabinet’s Hanover door style in Maple, finished with a Shadow stain and Charcoal glaze stands out among the perimeter cabinets. It serves as the gathering area for the space while also providing an ample work surface. Coordinating with the island, the hood is also finished in a Shadow stain and Charcoal glaze serving as the focal point of the back wall.

Their goal was to open up their home allowing the family room, dining room and kitchen to be one large space. The mix of cabinet finishes combined with the shaker door styles by Wellborn Cabinet created the inviting and tranquil environment that the clients desired.
