Nylodeck expands design capabilities

June 10, 2015

Situation

After eight years of use and entertainment, the Moore family of Blanchester, OH began to notice the aging appearance of their natural pine wood deck. No stranger to their local lumber yard, Carey and Kelly Moore set out to find a durable yet cost effective decking material.

“We were positive a composite would fit our needs for durability and long-lasting great looks,” stated Carey.

The initial plan for the renovation was straightforward: resurface the deck using a PVC material, run the boards at a 90 degree angle, add a spiral stair case and increase the usable patio area covered by the deck. However, after additional research, the family discovered they could enhance their design options with ease by using a non-traditional composite material.

Outcome

The family selected NyloDeck in Coastal Mist and Harbor Gray to create an installation that featured a seamless diagonal pattern with a picture frame detail.

“When we began this project, I planned to build the deck at a standard 90 degree angle for code compliance and product specifications,” said Carey, “but with NyloDeck, I was able to install the decking boards on a 45 degree angle with the joists at 16” O.C.”

Exceptionally strong and rigid, NyloDeck has two span ratings which allow for joist spans up to 24” O.C. and 45 degree diagonal patterns at 16” O.C. It can also carry twice the load of other composites at 16” spans.  Lightweight and easy-to-use, NyloDeck comes available in lengths up to 24’.

“My wife is pleased with the continuous diagonal pattern of the deck,” noted Carey. The 24’ boards enable diagonal decks up to 16’ deep and reduce the need for butt joints.

In addition to its strength, NyloDeck is exceptionally beautiful with the look of authentic wood. NyloDeck is not a capped composite; it is actually a monolithic board that uses a proprietary, three-dimensional embossing process to create a stunning finish with unique beauty and resistance to UV exposure, fading and stains. To add to NyloDeck’s attractiveness, each board features unique grains and color variations. Just as in natural wood products, no two NyloDeck boards look exactly the same.

The Moore family can also enjoy peace of mind knowing that NyloDeck is extensively tested and is backed by limited performance plus fade and stain warranties.
