The National Fenestration Rating Council offers several tips that remodelers can pass on to customers in the early stages of the design process to encourage window replacement.

  • Studies have shown that daylight is beneficial to people: Workers are more productive, students perform better, and patients heal faster in rooms with plenty of windows.
  •

  • Today’s windows feature technology that saves energy by admitting light without excessive heat in the summer. They also reduce heat loss in winter months.
  •

  • NFRC-certified windows ensure that consumers get the performance they want from new windows.
  •

  • Exposure to as much natural daylight as possible during the winter helps decrease the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder, a form of depression that is more common in northern states, according to mental-health experts.
  •

  • Operable windows provide opportunities for ventilation to improve indoor air quality.
